Lost or Stolen Passports
How to apply, Renewing your passport, Lost or stolen passports
What should I do if my passport is lost or stolen?
1. You should report the incident to the local police as soon as possible and obtain a police report.
2. You should then come to the British Embassy in Kigali and report the loss. This will reduce the risk of someone stealing your identity and attempting to enter the UK on your passport. Please note that you need to bring a copy of the police report and complete work LSO1 form, available at the link below or at the British Embassy. We will then cancel your passport.
To replace your lost or stolen passport, you need:
1. A completed passport application form and a completed LS01 (lost and stolen passport notification form)
Links: C1, C2, LS01 and notes
2. Two Photos (see guidance file below)
Please note that for any children’s passport application (under 16), photos must be countersigned by someone who is not a family member and who has known the parents for at least two years (for example: a teacher, doctor, major and/or Rwandan nationals with professional standing can countersign).

What if I later find a passport I have reported as lost or stolen?
You must return it to the nearest British Embassy as soon as possible. If you are in the UK you should return your passport to the nearest Identity and Passport Service office.
Once you report your passport as lost or stolen, the passport is electronically cancelled and you are not able to use it as legal proof of identity, nationality or for any other legal purpose. You must not use it to travel, as this may cause the passport to be impounded by the Immigration Service at UK ports or airports, and if attempting to travel overseas, you could face deportation or arrest. You must also not use it as a means of identification, as this may be detected as a potentially fraudulent act.

On Friday the office is open from 8:00 – 12:00.
Registering at the British Embassy
We want all British nationals to register with us. It is important; we need this information in an emergency, for example to pass on information in the event of natural disaster or for evacuation purposes. You can either register with us in person or via LOCATE (see below for more information).
BRITISH NATIONALS ONLINE CONSULAR REGISTRATION (LOCATE)
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has set up be a new and improved online registration service called LOCATE. The service will allow British nationals travelling or living overseas to register themselves with the FCO.
If you are a British national who either is resident or visiting Rwanda, whether for business or pleasure, you should register your details online. The registration details will be held on LOCATE, a secure password protected system.
When registering you will be asked for the duration your stay. You will be given two options to complete. Visits of (a) less than 90 days or (b) more than 90 days. It should be noted that details of your visit or residence will not remain on the system after the leaving date that you enter – ie if you register on the 1st January 2008 for under 90 days, then your details will be deactivated on the 1st April 2008. LOCATE will only accept details of travel for up to one year ahead, this mean long-term residents will need to register every year.
