The British Embassy Liaison Office (BELO) in Bujumbura opened in 2001. BELO is covered by the British Embassy in Kigali.  The UK's Ambassador to Burundi and Rwanda is Nicholas Cannon OBE. Today, the UK's support to Burundi totals approxiamately £15 million each year, the majority of which is budget support to the government towards health, education and poverty reduction.
 
The UK's Department for International Development (DFID), which is responsible for managing the UK's development partnership with Burundi, is located in the same building as BELO (see 'Contact us' section).
