Shakespeare International Day 2009 in Rwanda (26/10/2009)
On Friday 23rd October, the students of Nyagatare Secondary School performed William Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in Kigali, hosted by the British Embassy in Rwanda.
A cast of Senior One and Senior Two students performed as part of Shakespeare International Day 2009, the largest International Youth Shakespeare festival to span across hemispheres.
Shakespeare International Day was a globe-trotting extravaganza with schools from an anticipated 40 countries staging abridged Shakespeare plays throughout the world, whereby a 24 hour consecutive cultural baton was passed across nations. Shakespeare International Day 2009 is a unique performance event, enabling a global celebration of youth, culture, creativity, and Shakespeare. Nyagatare Secondary School students represented Rwanda, and it was the only school in East Africa to take part in the festival!
Guests and parents were amazed by the performance.
